When the Novint Falcon first released two years ago at a price point of $190, it was a one-trick pony, a tech demo destined to be purchased by the easily excited, then stuffed into the gizmo closet. But as Jesse discovered last week in "Left 4 Dead," the device may finally be fulfilling its potential. What's next for Novint?
"We're planning to get onto the game consoles."
That wasn't some lowly marketing peon -- that was Novint CEO Tom Anderson, who told us that he's hoping to have the Falcon support console titles by the end of the year.Of course, considering the Falcon has a simple USB connection, some might wonder why we haven't seen such support already. Anderson told GameCyte:
The main thing is that the console manufacturers wanted to see game support, and now, we have that game support. We've asked our publishing partners if they'd be willing to support us on consoles, and they said yes. So all the pieces are there -- we just need to put it together.
While Anderson informed us that Novint can't just build support for a game without developer license, the company previously had partnerships with EA, Codemasters, Eidos, JoWooD, Vivendi and more... and is currently "in talks" with an estimated dozen more.
