Many of you may have forgotten it by now, but “Metal Gear Online” still has quite the following—over one million registered members, to be exact. And, now, Konami is looking to bring new players into the fold with their "Welcome Rookie" campaign.

Until February 16, 2009, all players who register the retail version of "MGO" will be rewarded with a "special MGO Codec Pack," as well as 5,000 additional reward points, used in-game to purchase items; to put the number of points into perspective, players are given 50 points each day they log in. Unfortunately, like many new-player pushes, the prizes are only available to brand new, first time players who have never installed the game previously.

Don’t want to buy "MGO" before you try it? Then no problem, because the "Metal Gear Online" demo will be available for download until January 29, 2009.

For those who buy the retail version and activate the rewards, prize distribution will occur soon after February 17, 2009.
