Westin Hotels and Wii Provide Guests With Controller-Flailing Workouts

News

Following news that Westin would be adding the Wii to its list of accomodations, the hotel chain has announced that two locations have now begun the program. Westin-customized Wii consoles have been placed at the Westin Times Square, and the Westin Bellevue, where guests can enjoy the WestinWORKOUT program through titles like the always-strenuous Big Brain Academy.

Okay, so the consoles are going to have Wii Sports, too, which might actually provide some exercise, but honestly -- are we still talking about the "health benefits" of Wiimote-waggling? Wouldn't this promotion be a little more effective if Westin took advantage of Nintendo's upcoming actual fitness game? You would think --

With this partnership, Westin will be among the first hotel brands in the United States to receive delivery of Wii Fit, the highly anticipated interactive fitness game, set to release during the week of May 19 in North America.

Oh. Well, good. Okay, I could see this working. We contacted Westin to see what a guest would have to pay to get in on some hotel gaming, and we were informed the program was free; all guests at participating Westin Hotels can check out the WestinWORKOUT and its Westin Wiis at no extra Westin Wages. I mean cost.

In addition, the press release promises the consoles, which will be customized to allow guests to pick their games from the top screen (no disc swapping for the technologically-impaired), will include Wii Sports, Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree, Wii Play, and "others." We asked Westin for clarification on "others," and we expect to be able to provide details soon.
