A Tecmo Bowl without Bo? Sacrilege!

In the face of the potential sports juggernaut that EA-Take Two would be, we gamers have a champion in our corner, standing proud and ready to fight. That champion's name is Tecmo Bowl: Kickoff, and it's going to be released on the Nintendo DS. Unfortunately, for those of us who remember Tecmo Superbowl, there will be no god-like Bo Jackson to rampage across the field.

Do you not remember Tecmo Bo? Well, if you don't, here's a brief excerpt from Jackson's Wikipedia page:

Jackson's legend was further cemented by his digital counterpart, affectionately known as "Tecmo Bo", in the video game Tecmo Super Bowl for the Nintendo Entertainment System. "Tecmo Bo" is one of the best running backs -- and arguably the most lethal athlete -- in video game history. Players using "Tecmo Bo" have been able to rush for 800-900 yards per game and run all over the field on one play and run out the time of a whole quarter without being tackled.

Sounds awesome, doesn't it? Man, I wish the Raiders still had Bo Jackson. Anyway, back to the matter at hand. The new Tecmo Bowl: Kickoff will be hindered somewhat by EA's monstrous exclusivity deal:

The game may not have an NFL license due to Electronic Arts' exclusivity deal with the league, but Kickoff will feature a default 32-team league and customizable squads that allow users to choose colors, emblems, names, and more. Gamers will also be able to create their own playbooks.

Pretty standard fare for a football game. Some minor bonuses for this DS entry in the stories franchise are as follows:

The DS debut of Tecmo Bowl will use the system's Wi-Fi abilities for local and online multiplayer matches, and the touch screen can be used to control players. Tecmo Bowl: Kickoff is scheduled for release this fall and has not yet been rated.

And with that, I will leave you with a video of the Raiders dominating with just one player. The one, the only, Tecmo Bo:
