"Kids can dance into the New Year at Subway restaurants with the all-new DanceDanceRevolution promotion," reads the first line of the latest Konami press release, which I am officially declaring Most Groan-Inducing First Line (So Far) in 2009.

It seems that Konami and Subway have signed a bit of an agreement. When customers purchase a Subway Fresh Fit for Kids meal between now and March 29, not only will children get a healthy fast food alternative, but they'll also get one of six DDR-branded toys/accessories, along with a $10 off coupon good on any DanceDanceRevolution game.

The toys available include DDR armbands, water bottles, "Disco Revolution," a pencil pal, "Dancemania" and "Break-it-Down." You'll notice some of these are in quotes; that's because I have no idea what they could possibly be. Rest assured, though, I shall not rest until I find out. Emails and phone calls have been left with Konami, and I'll be investigating Subway as I go out for dinner any minute now. That's right: I will eat an oven roasted chicken breast sub (and a bag of Baked Lays)  in the name of investigative reporting.

On a serious note, it's good to see the partnership. DDR has always prided itself on a game that tries to help kids stay in shape, much like Subway prides itself on being healthier than pretty much any other fast food chain in the country. Anything promoting better health in children (and otaku adults) is a-ok in my book.

Now I just need to sit back, wait, and see who will be the first person to write an impassioned editorial about Subway assuming game-playing kids need to lose weigh.
