It’s said that you should never let money come between you and your friends. By that token, the folks at Eyes Out Entertainment would like to be your very best friends in the world. If it has long been your dream to work in the game industry without the corrupting influences that come of being paid for your efforts, you’re in luck — Eyes Out Entertainment is hiring for a few “initially unpaid” positions on their upcoming MMORPG, Tatsumaki: Land at War. I’m finally beginning to understand how the F2P model works as a business plan!

Okay, okay, so Eyes Out Entertainment is actually a small, independent developer without much in the way of an actual budget, and what they’re really looking for are “like-minded amateur developers” to join their ranks on the road to their debut title. Students, indies, and between-jobs pros, take note.

From the press release, which may or may not have been free:

Applicants should be passionate, have demonstrable experience and a desire to work with a likeminded team of experienced international developers. Geographical location is not important, but you should be willing and able to work in your free time.

They left out “independently wealthy.” To be fair, the phrase “initially unpaid” has implications of being paid somewhere down the line, but there’s no guarantee in here anywhere that the positions won’t also be “subsequently unpaid,” so caveat employee. The jobs do promise to provide valuable experience, on the other hand, and that much is likely to be true; it’s nice to have a bullet point on your résumé with an actual game title attached to it. Plus, you know how we feel about aspiring independents.
