Guitar Hero 4 to Feature New Instruments, Custom Music Creation

News

The June issue of Game Informer has arrived, and with it, a world-exclusive reveal of Guitar Hero 4 and its new features. As predicted, the new iteration of Guitar Hero will incorporate drums and vocals, but more interesting still is the addition of "Studio Mode," a feature which will let users create and share their own tracks -- not just remixes of the included soundtrack. The game will also include Create-a-Rocker Mode, new guitar and drum hardware, confirmed music from Van Halen, The Eagles, Linkin Park, and Sublime... and the return of Clive Winston.

Game Informer has extensive details on the Studio Mode, which ranges from "Jam Over," where players will be able to improvise over existing tracks by playing the instrument peripherals, to "Advanced Studio Mode," which will allow aspiring composers to place every note, every beat, and every pitch -- compared by the magazine to Apple's Garage Band.

In addition, the article features a look at the new drum kit, which may shatter hopes that the Rock Band drum kit would be compatible -- it features a pedal, three pads, and two cymbals.

It's difficult to say why the game is still being called Guitar Hero other than the name recognition at this point, but either way, between the promise of better hardware (with a quieter drum kit), frequent DLC, original song sharing, and drum solos, Rock Band may finally have some proper competition.

The June issue of Game Informer is headed to subscribers now.
