Do you live in New York? Would you like to stand on a white plastic rectangle for charity? Do you mind if local news anchors laugh at your use of this craaazy newfangled technology? Nintendo will be hosting a Wii Fit launch party on May 19th, and the simple act of attending the event will be generating donations for the American Heart Association.
Serving as a reminder that May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month (which is ironic, since it’s also National Good Car Keeping Month and National Artisan Gelato Month), Nintendo will be encouraging folks to get sweaty on the new Balance Board peripheral, and giving cash to a healthy cause:
For every attendee who “gets on board” for a Wii Fit demo, Nintendo will make a donation of $5 (up to $25,000 total) to the American Heart Association in support of its effort to help Americans live healthier. Expect crowds of people throughout the day, plus an appearance by celebrity trainer Ashley Borden.
Ashley Borden! You lucky New Yorkers. She was on Tyra Banks, you know. And so could you be, if this little promise to the press is any indication, from the official press release:
Hundreds of consumers of all ages twisting and tilting their bodies atop the innovative Wii Balance Board
Translation: They are going to make fun of you. Ah, well. It’s a good cause, and you could stand to lose a few pounds, Bloomberg. The event will be at Central Park’s Merchant’s Gate, May 19th, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
