One of Kotaku’s shrewd readers uncovered what is almost unmistakably a map of Grand Theft Auto IV’s Liberty City, visible in a series of six pictures uploaded by webshots user pallamallawa.
So what do these slightly blurry, but very welcome 1280×960 stills tell us? Not a whole heck of a lot, but there are a few valuable takeaways other than just the lay of the land. By the numbers:
1.) GTA IV is huge:
We’re not going to count the number of major streets depicted (though you’re more than welcome to) but we do note that its 7 islands are divided into over 60 different neighborhoods.
2.) If you’re sensitive to gas prices, public transit is finally a viable option:
There are 4 different subway lines (A, J, C and K) connecting the major islands, with over 25 stops listed on the map.
3.) The full control scheme is unveiled — or is it? That’s definitely a SIXAXIS in the diagram, but we’re not seeing any love for the motion controls…
You can find the other three pictures at Kotaku; normally we’d refer you back to webshots, but by time of publication the originals had disappeared without a trace…
