If you haven’t yet developed an obsessive attachment to the Weighted Companion Cube, prided yourself on proclaiming “The cake is a lie” at the slightest mention of dessert or reveled in the sinister beauty of Jonathan Coulton’s “Still Alive,” then this is the perfect time to pick up Portal, proclaimed far and wide as 2007’s “game of the year” by those publications which believe games should be measured against a Gregorian calendar.
Your newest reason to stop procrastinating comes in the form of Valve’s announcement today that the company will begin selling Portal, as well as The Orange Box relatives Team Fortress 2 and The Half-Life 2 Episode Pack as stand-alone titles at retail. Lateral thought stimulator Portal is expected to ring up at $19.99, with the other titles available at $29.99 each.
Gamasutra has the details:
The retail PC version of Team Fortress 2 will cost $29.99, and will include the recently-released Badlands map along with the ability to receive further updates, like the upcoming Goldrush mode and map, via Steam.
The Half-Life 2: Episode Pack, which includes both Half Life: Episode One and Half Life: Episode Two along with Half Life 2: Deathmatch for online play, is expected to retail for $29.99. Customers who already own one of the titles in the Episode Pack will be able to “gift” the extra game via Steam to a friend.
Expect them in retail PC boxes starting April 9th.
